Unvented cylinder & associated pipeworkYour hot-water system
Unvented hot-water cylinders are pressurised systems. Every installation is different, so I’ll discuss your needs and arrange a visit where needed before recommending work.
Assessing capacity, incoming water supply, cylinder location and associated pipework before discussing a new or replacement cylinder.
Maintenance appropriate to the manufacturer’s instructions, with attention to expansion arrangements, safety controls and discharge provisions.
Assessment of poor hot-water performance, unusual discharge, pressure problems and related cylinder components before deciding on repairs.
Changes to connected hot- and cold-water pipework, valves and other suitable plumbing-side components as part of a cylinder project.
G3-qualified work
Unvented systems need correctly functioning temperature and pressure protection, expansion arrangements and discharge pipework. Manufacturer instructions and applicable Building Regulations requirements are important on installations and replacements.
I hold the G3 unvented hot-water qualification and will explain the proposed plumbing work and the next steps before it begins.
How it works
Whether it’s routine servicing, a fault or a planned replacement, we’ll start with a conversation.
Where appropriate, I’ll visit to look at the installation and discuss your hot-water requirements.
I’ll explain the options and proposed work before you commit to a quotation.
Any agreed installation or servicing is completed with appropriate safety and manufacturer requirements in mind.
Common questions
Follow the manufacturer’s service and warranty guidance. Many manufacturers recommend regular, often annual, checks. The work required depends on the model and installation.
Water discharging through the tundish can have several causes, including an expansion vessel that has lost its charge or needs replacing, or a pressure relief valve that is passing. I can inspect the installation, check the relevant components and carry out the appropriate repair — whether that means recharging or replacing the expansion vessel, replacing a faulty valve, or addressing another fault. The discharge pipe must remain unobstructed until the issue is resolved.
Yes, where suitable. I’ll review the installation, your hot-water needs and the requirements for a replacement before discussing the options.
I’m based in Potton, with local work around Sandy, Biggleswade, Gamlingay, St Neots and surrounding Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire villages.
